Side menu
The Side menu lists a page's children in outline order, on the left, and shows the chosen child's own page beside the list. Use it to read through a page's children one at a time without losing your place on the page.

Read the menu and the child beside it
The menu lists the page's own children in the order of the outline. Nested notes are not listed on their own, so a child's children appear only when you choose that child. The chosen child's page fills the rest of the pane, with its own title, chips and fields.
The breadcrumb keeps the page you are on. It reads the workspace, the page's ancestors, the page, and then the chosen child as the current crumb. Choosing a child adds no history entry.
Move through the children
Click a child, or use the arrow keys with the menu focused. The page on the right changes to the child you chose. To change a child, edit it in the page on the right.
Find a child, sort and filter
Filter by name narrows the menu to the children whose names match, and shows how many are visible. The text is not saved.
The menu follows the page's sort and conditions, which you set in View options, as the List view does. The Sort menu there lists Name only, because the other columns come from the table. A sort set in the Table or Cards view still applies to the menu.
Combine it
- Read a journal one day at a timeShow the Journal as a Side menu. Each day page opens on the right as you choose it.
- Lanes for a few, Side menu for manyLanes show every child side by side, up to 20. Side menu shows the whole list, one child at a time.
- The same list as a ListList shows the notes of a page, a supertag or a search. Side menu shows only the page's own children.
- A referenced childA child that is a reference shows its own page on the right, and the breadcrumb still names the page you are on.
Limits
- Side menu is offered only on ordinary pages, the Inbox and the Journal. Supertag pages and saved searches do not offer it.
- The menu lists the page's own children, not the notes that carry a supertag or the results of a search.
- Group is not offered in Side menu view.
- The switch does not offer List, Calendar or Lanes. Use the tab menu or View options to reach them.
