Meeting notes

A meeting template with an Agenda, Decisions and Action items, a date that fills itself in, and attendees who are references to their person notes. Each person's page then lists every meeting they are in.

Features
The #meeting supertag, child templates, a Date field with Current date, the #person supertag, references, References on a page, and unlinked mentions
Keys
⌘K to find a person. ⌥⌘V pastes copied notes as references.
Time
About 20 minutes, in a new workspace

Start from an empty workspace

  1. New workspace

Choose File ▸ New Workspace… (⇧⌘N) and make a new workspace in an empty folder.

  2. Make the meeting supertag

Choose Sidebar ▸ Supertags, click New supertag, type meeting and press Return. No note is made, so the template you add next is the first thing the supertag gives.

Build the meeting template

  1. Open the meeting page

Click the meeting row's Open in the browser.

  2. Add the templates

Fold open Configure. Under Child templates, type Agenda in Add a child template and press Return. Then add Decisions, and Action items, in that order.

  3. Add a date that starts today

Choose Note ▸ Add Field…, type Date in the Field name box, choose Date in the Type menu, and click Apply. Then open the field's menu on the supertag page, choose Initial value, and choose Current date.

The three templates, in the order they will appear.

Make two people

  1. Write Ana

In the Inbox, press Return and type Ana Lindqvist #person. Choose Create #person and press Return.

  2. Write Sam

Press Return and type Sam Okafor #person, then press Return to apply it. Each is a person note now.

Start a meeting

  1. Type the meeting

Click the empty space below the last row in the Inbox, type Weekly sync, then a space and #meeting. Choose meeting and press Return.

  2. Look at the result

Agenda, Decisions and Action items appear under Weekly sync, and its Date reads today. Each child is an ordinary note, ready for you to fill in.

Add the attendees as references

  1. Open the meeting

Click the bullet of Weekly sync. The meeting opens as a page.

  2. Add Ana

Choose Note ▸ Add Reference…. A note picker opens, with the same search as the palette. Type Ana, and choose Ana Lindqvist.

  3. Add Sam

Choose Note ▸ Add Reference… again, and choose Sam Okafor. Both are added under the meeting, after its templates.

The attendees are references: the same person notes, shown here too.
The person's page lists every meeting that references her.
A reference is the same note in a second place.

Write the meeting

  1. Link a name

Click in the Action items note and type Ana to send the venue list with @Ana. In the list that opens, choose Ana Lindqvist with Return. The typed text becomes a link to that person.

  2. Name a person without a link

Under Decisions, type Sam to confirm the catering. Leave the name plain.

  3. Find the plain name

Click the bullet of Sam Okafor. Below the outline, a section named Unlinked mentions lists Weekly sync, with a Link button beside it. Click Link to make the name a link.

A person's page shows the meetings that reference them, and the notes that name them without a link. Both lists follow what you write.
