A project board
A board with one lane per project. Each project starts with the notes it always needs, and every task you add under it becomes a task. The Table view of a project adds up what is done.
- Features
- The Lanes view, the #project and #task supertags, child templates, New children get, an Option field with a default, and footer totals in the Table view
- Keys
- Return at the end of a project's last note makes the next task. ⌃⌥← and ⌃⌥→ move between lanes.
- Time
- About 25 minutes, in a new workspace
Start from an empty workspace
New workspace
Choose File ▸ New Workspace… (⇧⌘N) and make a new workspace in an empty folder.
Make the task supertag
Choose Sidebar ▸ Supertags, click New supertag, type task and press Return. Open its page, fold open Configure and turn on Show as checkbox, so every task gets a box.
Make the project supertag
In the browser, click New supertag again, type project and press Return. Setting it up now means every project you tag later gets the templates and the field.
Set up the project supertag
Add a Status field
Open the project page. Choose Note ▸ Add Field…, type Status, choose Option in the Type menu and click Apply. Click the name Status on the Fields card, and add the options Planning, Active and Done, each followed by Return.
Set the default
In Field Settings, click the Default row and choose Planning. A new project starts in Planning.
Add the child templates
Fold open Configure. Under Child templates, type Goals in Add a child template and press Return. Add Risks the same way.
Set the new children
Still in Configure, open Behavior and choose task in the New children get menu. A note you add under a project then carries #task.
Make the board and the projects
Make the board page
In the Inbox, press Return and type Project board. Click its bullet to open it as a page. Lanes are offered on an ordinary note or the Inbox, so this page can hold them.
Add the first project
On the empty Project board page, press Return and type Tidewatch 2.0 #project. Choose project and press Return. The project gets its Goals and Risks notes, and its Status reads Planning.
Add the second project
Click in the empty space below the last row of Project board. That starts a note at the end of the page. Type Harbor Café website #project and press Return.
Project board, with the first project open
Add the templates before you add the projects. A child template is copied when the supertag is applied, so a project tagged earlier does not get a template you add later.
Add tasks under a project
Start a task
Click at the end of Risks, under Tidewatch 2.0, and press Return. The new note is made under the project, so it gets #task as soon as it is made.
Add more
Type Send the invitations and press Return, then type Book the venue. Each note you make under the project is a task.
Show the projects as lanes
Choose Lanes
On the Project board page, click View options, open the View as menu and choose Lanes. The page shows one lane per child note. The same choice is in a view tab's Show as submenu.
Add a lane
Click Add lane. A new note appears as the next lane. Give it a title and tag it #project, and it fills with its own templates.
Move between lanes
Press ⌃⌥← and ⌃⌥→ to move from one lane to the next, and click in a lane's note to edit it.
Add up what is done
Show the project as a table
Open the Tidewatch 2.0 page and choose View ▸ Show as Table. Its notes are the rows: Goals, Risks and each task.
Count the checked tasks
Under the checkbox column, open the calculation menu in the footer and choose Count checked.
Total a number
If a project has a number field, such as Budget, choose Sum under its column to add up the rows.
The footer totals the rows the table shows, so a filter narrows what is added up. Totals are a view setting and change no note.
