Quick Capture
Quick Capture adds notes from a small panel, one note for each line, to Today or to the Inbox. Use it to get a thought into the workspace without leaving the page you are on.

Capture lines to Today or the Inbox
Open the panel
Press ⇧⌘J. The panel opens over the window and names the workspace, for example “Workspace: Northwind Studio”.
Choose the destination
The popup reads Today or Inbox. The line under it says where the notes go: “Adds notes to the end of today, followed by the date”, or “Adds notes to the end of the Inbox.” The choice is remembered for each workspace. Today is the default.
Type one note per line
Each line becomes a note. Press ⌥Return to start a new line inside the panel.
Add the notes
Press Return. The panel closes. The window says “Added 3 notes to Today.” (or “to the Inbox”), with an Undo button.
Indented lines and lines that begin with -, * or • become notes nested under the line above them, as they do when you paste. Blank text adds nothing, and the panel stays open.
Esc closes the panel and adds nothing. If a supertag list is open, the first Esc closes only that list.
Add a supertag as you capture
Type # and the start of a supertag's name. A list of matching supertags opens under the text. Press ↓ or ↑ to highlight one, then Return or Tab to choose it. The text becomes #Name , and the note made from that line gets the supertag. With no supertag highlighted, Return adds the lines as they are typed.
A name that no supertag has offers a Create supertag row. Choosing it makes the supertag in the same step as the notes, and only if a line uses it.
The system-wide shortcut and menu-bar item
While a workspace window is open, a menu-bar item and a system-wide shortcut open Quick Capture.
Both are off until turned on in Settings ▸ General.
The shortcut is ⌃⌥⌘J unless you change it in General. The menu-bar item lists Capture…, then Open followed by each open workspace, then Quit Superliner. The panel goes to the workspace in front, or the one you used last, and it names that workspace before anything is added.
Combine it
- Capture a taskType
#Taskin the panel and each line becomes a task note with that supertag. The note has the supertag from the moment it is made. - Check off what you capturedSelect the captured notes on Today and press ⌘Return to give each one a checkbox.
- Undo a whole captureThe Undo button in the message, and Edit ▸ Undo, take back the whole capture in one step.
- Build a daily journalCapture lines into Today, and the recipe shows how the day pages fit together.
Limits
- In a read-only workspace the panel does not open. A message says that no changes are saved.
- Capturing to Today creates the day page if it is missing. Opening Today does not.
- The panel adds notes only. To edit them, open the page you chose.
