Cards

The Cards view shows a page's notes as cards. Group the cards into columns by a checkbox, a Yes/No field, an option field or a supertag, and the columns become a board. Use it for a status board or any list you move notes through.

What a card shows

A card shows the note's name, with Untitled for an empty name and Divider for a divider. It also shows its checkbox when it has one, up to two field values that have a value, a reference field's note, a date field's day, and the note's first supertag. The supertag is left out while the board is grouped by supertag, because the column already says it.

Grouped by an option field called Status. Each column is one option, in the field's own order.

Group cards into columns

Open the Group menu in the view bar and choose what the columns are. Each choice gives its own columns.

Group byColumns
DoneOpen and Done, for the checkbox
A Yes/No fieldNo and Yes
An option fieldEvery option of the field, in the field's own order, even an option that no note has yet, plus No value while a note is in it
SupertagOne column for each supertag the notes carry. Notes with no supertag go to No supertag.

Choose None to return to one column called All.

Move a card to another column

Drag a card into another column. The card takes that column's value: the option, Yes or No, or the checked state. The change is one undo step. A card dropped into a column with no value to give is refused, and a message says so.

Dragging a card within its own column reorders it, but only when the page is in its own order, with no sort and no filter, and the cards are the page's own children. A supertag column does not take a drop: the message says a note's supertags are changed on the note, not by moving its card.

The card's Status is the column it lands in.

Without a mouse, select a card and use the Move to item in its accessibility actions. The context menu has no move item.

Add a card to a column

Click + Add note at the foot of a column and type a name. Return creates the note (a blank name makes none) and puts it in that column, with the column's value. On a supertag's board the note also gets the supertag. A saved search's board takes no new notes.

Open, check and remove cards

Select a card with the arrow keys and press Return to open it. Space or ⌘Return checks or unchecks a card that has a checkbox. Double-click opens a card too. Card text is edited on the note's page, not on the card.

On a reference the last item reads Remove Reference. On a supertag's board it reads Remove #task.

Note ▸ Move to Trash acts on the selected card, one card at a time.

Sort, filter and see more

The Filter and Sort buttons work on cards as they do on rows in the Table view, by column. The setting is kept with the view. A column shows its first 100 cards, then a Show more button for the next 100.

Limits

  • Only a checkbox, a Yes/No field and an option field can group cards. Other fields cannot.
  • Card text is not edited on the card. Open the card to change its name.
  • A column shows 100 cards at a time.
