The ⌘K palette
The palette finds a note, a supertag or a command from a few letters of its name. Use it when you know what you want and do not want to hunt for it in the outline.
- Open
- ⌘K, or Note ▸ Find or Open Note…
- Commands only
- Type
>first, then the command's name - Open the choice
- Return or double-click. ⌘Return opens it beside the page

Find a note
Press ⌘K and type. The list shows the notes, supertags and commands whose names match. Matching ignores case and accents, so istanbul finds “İstanbul”.
- [[⌘K]]
- Open the palette
- [[↑]][[↓]]
- Move between the rows
- [[Return]]
- Open the selected note, supertag or command
- [[⌘Return]]
- Open the selected note beside the page
- [[Esc]]

Exact titles come first, then titles that start with the text, then titles that contain it. Three or more letters also match letters in order when nothing else does, so tdwtch can find “Tidewatch 2.0”. The list shows up to 50 notes for one search.
Start from recent pages or open beside
With the field empty, the palette lists your two most recent pages under Recent, then the commands. Choose one of them or type to search.
Run a command from the palette
Type > to list only commands. Every command you can use at that moment is listed with its shortcut. Insert commands are marked Insert command, so Heading 1 and Mark as done appear here too. A command runs on the focused note.
> to narrow the list. The footer names the keys that work here.Narrow the search to a supertag or a note
Type # and the start of a supertag's name. The palette offers Scope to supertag rows. Choose one and it becomes a chip, such as #Project ×. Only notes with that supertag, or a supertag that extends it, are then listed. Backspace in an empty field removes the last chip.
The Within note button at the trailing end of the scope row limits results to one note. Its menu offers Anywhere (the default), This page, notes you searched within before, and Choose note…. Press ⌥↓ to open the menu from the keyboard. When the palette opens over a page, This page names that page.
Create a note from the palette
When no note has exactly the text you typed, a row reads “Create ‘your text’ in ‹page›”, where the page is the one you are on. Choosing it opens a draft under that page, prefilled with the text. Nothing is written until you type in the draft. An untouched draft is removed when you leave it.
With a supertag scope on, the row reads “Create ‘your text’ in Inbox with #Project”, and the note is made in the Inbox with those supertags. The row is not offered under Within note, on a built-in page, on a supertag or field page, or in a read-only workspace.
Combine it
- Keep a question as a searchType
#Taskwith its space and a word. The palette shows only task notes. Save the same question as a saved search to keep the list. - Read one page while you open anotherChoose a note with ⌘Return and it opens in the second pane, so the page you are reading stays put.
- Run an insert command on the note you are writingType
>and choose Heading 1 or Mark as done. The command applies to the note you are editing. - Find the page of a dayType a date such as
2026-10-14to find a day page by its title, then open it. Going to a date is quicker from the Go menu.
Limits
- Trash and the built-in pages (Inbox, Journal, Trash and Schema) are not listed as results. Open the Inbox from the Go menu or the sidebar.
- Notes in Trash are not listed. Restore them from the Trash page first.
- A workspace that is open read-only offers no Create row.
