Appearance and text size
Appearance sets light or dark, the accent colour, the text size, the density of rows, and how far each level of nesting is indented. These choices apply to every workspace and are kept apart from your notes.

Light, dark or the system setting
The Appearance popup has three choices. System, the default, follows your Mac. Light and Dark hold the app in that look in every window and in Settings, whatever the Mac is set to.
Accent colour
The accent colours the interface's accent text and glyphs and the soft fills behind chips, and it colours links in notes unless links get their own colour. Choose one of eight presets: Purple (the default), Blue, Teal, Green, Orange, Pink, Red or Graphite. Each swatch shows its light and dark colour. A change is one Undo step, named Accent Color. The menu shows Custom once you change colours in Customize Colors….
Text size
Text size runs from 11 to 28 points, and the default is 15. It sets the text of notes. The sidebar, page titles, breadcrumbs, tag chips, field cards and the palette grow with it, so they do not clip. The interface never gets smaller than its designed size.

Density and indentation
Density sets the height of each outline row. Comfortable, the default, is the standard height. Compact is about 85 per cent of it, and Spacious is about 130 per cent. Indentation sets how far each nested level moves right, from 12 to 40 points, with 22 as the default.
Reduce motion
Reduce motion is off by default. Turn it on to stop Superliner's short transitions. Superliner also follows the macOS Reduce Motion setting, so it stops them when that is on.
Customize colours
Customize Colors… opens a window with four colours: Accent, Accent fill, Selected row and Links. Each has a light and a dark well. The window shows a preview of both appearances and warns when a text colour is hard to read. Restore Defaults in that window puts the four back, and Done closes it. Changes apply at once and are stored on this Mac.
Restore the defaults
General ▸ Restore Defaults… asks “Restore default settings?” and then returns text size, appearance, Reduce motion, density and indentation to their defaults. It does not change the accent colour or the Quick Capture settings. The change can be undone from Edit ▸ Undo.
Combine it
- Bigger text in the paletteThe palette grows with the text size, so a longer note name still fits the list.
- Colours on supertagsA supertag has its own colour, set on the supertag. It is separate from the accent.
- Indentation and nestingIndentation sets how far each child sits from its parent. Tab and Shift-Tab change the nesting itself.
- All the settings in one placeSettings holds these controls, along with editing, Journaling and workspace choices.
Limits
- Only the link colour reaches note text from this window. Text and highlight colours in a note are set with Format.
- These are app preferences. A backup or a Markdown copy does not carry them.
