Conditions

A condition is one test that a note must pass. A saved search combines its conditions with All or Any, and a row marked Not reverses its test. This page lists every kind of condition and each option it offers, and what each one matches.

Combine the rows

The line at the top reads Find notes matching All of these conditions, or Any. All means every row must hold. Any means at least one must. Each row also has a Not checkbox. A row with Not checked matches the notes its test does not match. A search can hold up to 99 conditions.

To mix All and Any, choose Add group. A group is one row with its own All or Any, its own Not, and its own rows indented under it, so you can build "(A and B) or C". Groups go one level deep. A group with no complete condition matches nothing.

Press Return in a text field to start the next row. Tab moves through the controls of the list. Each condition is complete when every part of it is chosen. A row that is not complete is not applied, and the count line says how many.

Every kind of condition

Add condition offers these eight kinds, in this order. The Add filter of a view (the Filter button in a table or board, or View options) offers the same kinds except Relation.

ConditionChoicesWhat it matches
Supertagis, or is exactly, and a supertagis: the notes with the supertag, or with a supertag that extends it. is exactly: only the notes with the supertag itself.
Fieldhas a value, then a comparison for the field's type (see the next table), or relative date, or in a rangeThe field's value, compared as its type says
Textcontains, and the text to findThe note's own text, and the text of its table cells. Case and accents are ignored. Child notes are not included.
CheckboxDone, Not done, Has a checkbox, Has no checkboxDone: a checked note. Not done: an unchecked note, not a note with no checkbox. Has a checkbox and Has no checkbox do not look at the state.
CreatedToday, Yesterday, Last 7 days, Last 30 days, This week, Last week, This month, Last month, or Custom range…The note's created time falls in the range
EditedThe same choices as CreatedThe note's last edited time falls in the range
Locationinside, or directly inside, and a noteinside: anywhere below the chosen note. directly inside: only its own children.
Relationdirectly inside, inside, links to, or appears on, and an operand: Parent, Grandparent, This note, or Choose note…directly inside and inside: as Location, but for the operand. links to: the note holds a reference to the operand, a field value that names it, or a link to it in its text. appears on: the note appears under the operand, as an owned child or a reference.

Calendar, List and Side menu use the same conditions as a saved search, through View options.

The eight kinds in the order the menu lists them.

Field conditions by type

Choose the field first. The comparison menu then offers the choices for that field's type. Each field type has one value control.

Field typeComparisonsValue
Numberis, is not, is less than, is at most, is more than, is at leastA number
Date and Timestampis, is not, ends before, ends on or before, starts after, starts on or after. Also relative date, and in a range.A date, or today. It is saved as that day.
Text, URL, Email, Listcontains, is, is notA typed value
Checkbox field (Yes or No)is, is notYes or No
Option and Tagsis, is notAn option, from a list
Noteis, is notA note, from a search list

On a Date field, the ordering comparisons read by the part of a date range that decides them. A range that covers the day matches is.

Dates and ranges

Created and Edited ranges use whole calendar days and your calendar's week. Last 7 days and Last 30 days are that many whole days ending with today. Next 7 days starts today. This week and Last week are calendar weeks, and the same for months.

The in a range choice for a Date or Timestamp field offers Today, Yesterday, Last 7 days, Last 30 days, This week, Last week, This month, Last month, Tomorrow, Next 7 days, Next week and Next month. Relative date compares the field with a day counted from today, such as Yesterday, Tomorrow, or a number of days from today. Days from today accepts a whole number, with a minus sign for days earlier.

Custom range… asks for a From day and an Until day. Both are typed, such as 2026-10-01 or today. The Until day is included in the range.

Relations to other notes

Parent is the note a search is shown under, Grandparent is that note's own parent, and This note is the note the search is shown for. Those three are filled in when the search runs. A search on its own page is not shown under any note, so they match nothing there. Choose note… picks one note, and that choice stays with the search.

Parent and This note are filled in by the note the search appears on.

Reverse a row with Not

Tick Not on a row to reverse its test. Not Checkbox Done, for example, finds the notes that are not checked. A row that is not finished is not applied yet, whatever its Not box says.

Not reverses the row, and only that row.

Limits

  • A search holds up to 99 conditions, and a table, board, calendar or list view holds up to 12 filter conditions.
  • Text can be up to 1,000 characters. A Days from today number can be up to 36,500 days either way.
  • Parent, Grandparent and This note need a search shown under a note. On a search's own page they match nothing.
  • A table, board or calendar filter does not offer Relation.
  • Text matches a note's own text, not its child notes.
