Superliner app icon

A native outliner where every note is a page.

Nest notes, open any note as its own page, link notes to each other, add supertags and fields. Notes stay on your Mac as JSON and Markdown files. No account, no tracking.

Features

Outline, link and browse your notes

Superliner is built around the outline. Notes nest as deep as you need, every note opens as a page, and links connect the pages.

Outline from the keyboard

Return starts a new note, Tab and Shift-Tab change its depth, and Shift-Return adds a line inside a note. Collapse and expand branches, select several notes at once, and drag a bullet to move a note. Undo covers edits, moves and Trash.

The Inbox as an outline. Notes sit under parents with their supertag chips and fields, and the sidebar lists Today, Journal, Inbox and Supertags.

Built for outlines that link

Command-K palette

Command-K opens a palette that finds notes, supertags and commands, ignoring case and accents.

Today and Journal

Today opens today's page in the Journal. Step to the previous or next day, or go to any date.

Quick Capture

Quick Capture adds one note per line to Today or the Inbox. While a workspace window is open, a menu-bar item and a system-wide shortcut open Quick Capture.

Tables and code blocks

Put tables inside a note, and add and move their rows and columns. Write code blocks with syntax highlighting for 17 languages.

Markdown copy of every note

Superliner writes a Markdown copy of every note, with its tags and fields at the top of the file, for other tools to read.

Slash commands

Type / for Insert commands: headings, to-dos, dates, tables and more, without leaving the keyboard.

Your files, on your Mac

Notes stay in files you can open elsewhere

Notes are stored as JSON files in a workspace folder. Superliner also writes a Markdown copy of every note, with its tags and fields at the top of the file, for other tools to read. Edits to the Markdown copy are not read back.
